  • As of 15 September, a total of 651 521 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported.
  • The death toll increased by 142 for a total of 15 641.
  • 583 126 were recorded which translated to a recovery rate of 89.5%.

As of 15 September, 651 521 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported, with 772 new ones identified in the last 24 hours.

According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, Gauteng still accounts for 33.1% of all confirmed cases of the virus, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 17.9% and the Western Cape with 16.7% of the total cases.

Total confirmed cases by province:

Gauteng: 215 481

KwaZulu-Natal: 116 674

Western Cape: 108 537

Eastern Cape: 87 514

Free State: 42 255

North West: 27 321

Mpumalanga: 25 860

Limpopo: 14 263

Northern Cape: 13 616


Active cases

As of 15 September, a total of 583 126 recoveries had been recorded, which translated to a recovery rate of 89.5%.

The total number of active cases are 52 754.

Confirmed active cases:

Gauteng: 19 880

Free State: 12 965

KwaZulu-Natal: 7 100

North West: 4 234

Western Cape: 3 414

Northern Cape: 3 028

Eastern Cape: 830

Mpumalanga: 778

Limpopo: 525


Covid-19 related deaths

The Covid-19 death toll also rose, as 142 new Covid-19 related deaths were reported on Tuesday evening.

According to Mkhize, 67 of the new deaths were reported in Limpopo, 19 in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal 16, Western Cape 13, Gauteng 12, Northern Cape11, and four new deaths were reported in the Eastern Cape.

"We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers that treated the deceased patients," Mkhize said.

As of 15 September, the confirmed Covid-19 related death toll was 15 641.

Gauteng: 3 933

Eastern Cape: 3 055

KwaZulu-Natal: 2 425

Free State: 838

Mpumalanga: 485

North West: 325

Limpopo: 325

Northern Cape: 176
