President Cyril Ramaphosa's supporters will walk into the ANC's crucial national executive committee (NEC) meeting this weekend armed with a hard-hitting legal opinion that corruption accused secretary-general Ace Magashule must step aside - or be forced to do so.
By not stepping down after being charged with corruption linked to the so-called Free State "asbestos heist", the opinion found Magashule had not complied with the NEC's August 2020 resolution that members charged with serious offences should step aside until the finalisation of their trials - and therefore violated the ANC's constitution.
