As anticipated, South Africa's interest rate has been hiked again by 50 basis points to 8.25%, adding more pain to consumers’ pockets. The members of the SA Reserve Bank's monetary policy committee all voted unanimously in favour of the hike, citing elevated inflation and a weak rand.  

Meanwhile, Business Leadership South Africa's Busi Mavuso has warned that SA's business community could find itself getting left behind as international investors grow tired of waiting for SA to show its potential. Mavuso spoke at News24's summit in Cape Town, where South Africans gathered to plan for the future.  

The number of people who have died of cholera in Hammanskraal, outside Tshwane, has now risen to 20. The Free State reported that one person died after being diagnosed with cholera and provincial officials are specifically concerned about increasing cases in the Ngwathe local municipality.
