Factional battles playing out in the executive, trying to save her job or weakening the credibility and authority of President Cyril Ramaphosa? Why did Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula break rank on statements about the unrest being an insurrection?

On Sunday, Mapisa-Nqakula openly rubbished statements made by Ramaphosa and the police ministry that the unrest seen in South Africa resulted from an insurrection.

Mapisa-Nqakula was speaking during a joint standing committee on defence meeting regarding the situation in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, News24 reported.
