ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte has read the riot act to the party's controversial Limpopo treasurer, Dan Msiza, and instructed him to step aside.

Msiza abruptly stepped aside on Wednesday, but it is still unclear what pushed him into making this decision.

The provincial executive committee (PEC) is expected to deal with the conditions of his stepping aside on Monday.
