The ANC's special national executive committee (NEC) meeting that took place on Sunday and Monday saw fierce debates around achieving organisational renewal, and ways in which the party could implement its resolutions on land reform. 

The contestation around the party's organisational renewal allegedly played itself out after policy positions around rebuilding the party were presented by ANC policy head Jeff Radebe. 

Sources told News24 the ANC seeks to tighten its framework of rules around party discipline and its guidelines around stepping aside for criminally charged members; and ensuring that tainted members are no longer eligible to stand for election for top party positions, nor if they contradict the party's rebuilding strategy.
