There were already signs that animals were starving and dying on Speaker of Parliament Thandi Modise's farm some eight months before the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) were first called to the scene.
This is what the Potchefstroom Regional Court heard on Wednesday, where Modise is on trial for animal cruelty.
She is being privately prosecuted by AfriForum's Private Prosecution Unit on behalf of the NSPCA.
