Pretoria police are searching for leads after the bodies of two girls were found in a building in Atteridgeville on Friday.

The bodies were burnt and the girls have not yet been identified, police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said.

"Police in Tshwane have opened a case of murder and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the burnt bodies of two female minors in an abandoned building in Atteridgeville Extension 7 on Friday," she said.

Police officers were called by members of the community and "on arrival at the scene made the gruesome discovery", Peters said.

"The bodies were burnt beyond recognition and at this point no one has come forward yet to either report missing children or assist in determining their identities. Police are, therefore, appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in unravelling this case to urgently contact Atteridgeville SAPS on 012 385 1505 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111," she said.
