South Africa is likely to pledge its support to Botswana’s candidate for executive secretary of the Southern African Development Community, following a working visit of that country’s president, Mokgweetsi Masisi, to President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday.
An official said that Botswana’s candidate, Elias Mpedi Magosi, who is also Permanent Secretary to Masisi, Cabinet Secretary and the Head of Civil Service, was the obvious choice since Botswana had a culture of democracy and clean governance - and he was expected to bring this to the highest bureaucratic office in the regional body.
