Even though fugitive preacher Shepherd Bushiri had the help of senior Department of Home Affairs officials to circumvent the law, Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has emphatically rejected the notion that Bushiri had captured his department.

"There are cases that are already out in public. One of them is the leaked document of Bushiri capturing the home affairs department. I want to tell you straight that Bushiri has not captured home affairs," Motsaoledi said.

On Tuesday, the minister and his top officials briefed Parliament’s Home Affairs Committee on the work done by the department’s counter-corruption and security services branch.
