Firefighters battle the blaze at the HM Pearson, Fuller and Jagger Library buildings at the University of Cape Town’s Rondebosch campus on Sunday 18 April.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is working on an urgent safety plan to get its campus up and running after a raging wildfire spread across the slopes of Table Mountain, torching several university buildings.

On Tuesday, UCT officials said the university was looking at various options to safe-proof its campus and prevent any future wildfires.

"We are currently working on a safe plan to bring our students back to campus. It is being discussed as a matter of urgency. We don't want to cause any further anxiety but it's crucial that the business of the university is operational again," UCT registrar Royston Pillay said.
