A 55-year-old woman has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a mentally challenged man in Krugersdorp.
The woman raped and sexually assaulted the 21-year-old in his home while she was his caregiver.
"The woman was hired to be a caregiver to the victim. She raped the victim and sexually assaulted him while the parents were not home. The matter was reported by a neighbour after the victim told him about his ordeal," said police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello.
The woman received life in prison for the rape and six years for sexual assault.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, the Benoni Regional Court sentenced 30-year-old Ntshabeleng Graider Komane to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 22-year-old woman.

"On the evening of 20 August 2021, Komane requested the victim to accompany him to his friend's house at Etwatwa. On arrival at the place, there was no one. Komane forced the victim into the house where he raped her at knife point," said Sello.
Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela commended the investigating officers in these cases.
"I am pleased with these sentences as victims will now be safe and comforted that the perpetrators are out of the society. We stand firm in the fight against GBVF. With this period declared 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children, we will intensify our campaigns which we conduct throughout the year," Mawela said.
