Budget cuts were lamented during the past budget season, but Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane's department spent R150 000 of public money for a ministerial cook-off with local celebrity Somizi Mhlongo.

Last month, Kubayi-Ngubane stirred up controversy with the culinary marketing event to drum up publicity for her Tourism budget vote speech in the National Assembly the following day.
