A police officer and a suspected accomplice have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 31-year-old woman.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said:
Police fear that she was murdered and that her body was dumped in a mine shaft.
The 40-year-old police sergeant was arrested at the Benoni police station in Gauteng where he is stationed.
The 39-year-old suspected accomplice was arrested, allegedly in a hideout in the Apel policing precinct in Limpopo on Wednesday, Mojapelo added.

"The team is currently following up on the information that the suspects might have murdered the woman and dumped her body into a discontinued ventilation mine shaft in Benoni," he said.
A police search and rescue team is expected to help with the investigation, and a search operation will start as soon as the necessary equipment to access the shaft is made available, Mojapelo added.
The men are expected to appear in Nebo Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
