
King William's Town - A man has been hailed a hero by police after he came to the aid of a woman being robbed by three suspects in Butterworth on Tuesday evening.
The woman, 34, had been returning from church when the three suspects accosted her, robbing her of her cellphone.
Police said the man was driving by when he noticed the incident and stopped his car.
"He chased the three suspects and caught up with an 18-year-old suspect. He found the cellphone of the victim with the suspect. He handed over the suspect to Butterworth Police Station," police said in a statement.
The suspect was charged with robbery with a knife. He was due to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Police were still looking for the other two suspects.
Butterworth station commander Colonel Sipho Hokwana praised the man for his brave efforts in helping fight crime.
