President Cyril Ramaphosa is not expected to announce the closing of beaches and public areas in Covid-19 hotspots across the country, despite a plea from Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane that they be shut down during the festive period to curb the spread of the coronavirus. 

The Presidential Coordinating Council met on Wednesday morning to discuss recommendations made by the National Coronavirus Command Council on localised restrictions for hotspot areas.
