Covid-19 likely to lead to a high drop-out rate at schools, say experts

A high number of pupils are expected to drop out of schools due to Covid-19, in what education analysts have described as a "bleak" situation.  

High drop-out rates are expected in primary and high schools because of Covid-19. 

In September last year, the Department of Basic Education told Parliament they expected 75 000 pupils to drop out of Grade 7 and 12. The number of drop-outs this year will only be known once the academic year starts in February.
