Trauma cases over the weekend could have a devastating effect on an already overburdened healthcare system, Western Cape officials have warned.

The cases, which fill up beds and demand resources from provincial healthcare facilities, could dramatically impact the province’s ability to respond to Covid-19, as the Western Cape approaches the peak of its third wave.

In a digital briefing on Thursday, Western Cape Department of Health head Dr Keith Cloete estimated that the province would reach its peak in the next seven to 10 days.
