South Africa recorded 4 209 new Covid-19 infections by Tuesday and 120 new Covid-19-related deaths, taking the official death toll to 57 183.
According to a statement by the national Department of Health, as of Tuesday, the country recorded a total of 1 704 058 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
There were 59 860 active cases as of Tuesday.
The total number of people vaccinated is 1 433 730.
"Our spirits were lifted today when we learnt that we have officially vaccinated over 1 million senior citizens aged 60 years and above under phase two. We must convey our appreciation to the senior citizens who have, and continue, to come forward in their numbers to be vaccinated. We also thank all those who are responsible for the administration of the rollout for their grit and determination as we continue to ramp up the campaign," Dr Sandile Buthelezi, director-general of health said.
The recovery rate is 93%, and 1 587 015 recoveries have been recorded.
To date, 11 932 018 tests have been completed, with 32 225 tests conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.
