Did mayor use municipal funds to attend HIV event or ANC conference? Investigation under way

The mayor of the Matatiele municipality, Sonwabile Mngenela, is being probed for allegedly using R13 000 of municipal money to fund a trip to the ANC's elective conference in East London in May. 

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee is investigating the allegations tabled before council by the DA on Thursday. 

The DA said it had written to the MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Xolile Nqatha, to ask him to hold Mngenela to account.
