The Eastern Cape Department of Education has launched a probe into allegations that a Grade 5 teacher Bukani Primary School in Addo, outside Gqeberha, assaulted a pupil when he answered a question incorrectly.

The injured 10-year-old had visible scars on his buttocks after Wednesday's alleged assault.

According to his mother, he could not sit and had to lie on his side for two days.
