The ANC launching its local government election manifesto in the City of Tshwane on Monday was a demonstration of how badly the governing party wanted to rectify the embarrassing blow it suffered when it lost control of the country's administrative capital.

"Tshwane serves as a seat for the executive of the country given that the Union Buildings are located in the metro, so the president and the Cabinet are situated in this city. All our ministries are in Tshwane and all international diplomats are based here in Tshwane. So, it's in our interests as a governing party to return Tshwane back to its former glory because you know that service delivery during the ANC's tenure was at its best here in Tshwane," said ANC spokesperson and national executive committee member Dakota Legoete.
