The man who murdered Matwetwe actor Sibusiso Khwinana in 2019 was arrested twice before, and despite being in the country illegally, this was never acted upon.

However, police did not bother to ascertain his legal status in South Africa, even after receiving potentially fraudulent asylum documents from him in one case. 

On Friday, the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria sentenced 36-year-old Tanzanian national Julius Lucas to life imprisonment for the murder of Khwinana, who was stabbed to death during a robbery at the Sterland Mall in Arcadia Pretoria.
