President Cyril Ramaphosa is considering appointing a career police officer as the next chief of the beleaguered SAPS, News24 can reveal.
Ramaphosa is weighing up his options as top cop Khehla Sitole rounds off his chequered term of office.
The Presidency last month announced that Sitole had agreed to the early termination of his contract for the benefit of the country. This effectively negated a board of inquiry into his fitness to hold office, but his axing ensured that his name is added to a string of police commissioners tainted by scandal, which stretches back more than a decade.
