Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.(Jan Gerber/News24).

Justice Bess Nkabinde, advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, SC, and advocate Johan De Waal, SC - these are the experienced jurists National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise appointed to serve on an independent panel which must determine whether there is a prima facie case for Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's removal.

The appointment of this panel is the third step in a process which started in February when DA chief whip Natasha Mazzone lodged a motion for Mkhwebane's removal with Modise.

This was the second motion Mazzone brought. After the first was approved in January, she withdrew it and lodged another, with what she considered evidence that Mkhwebane was not suitable for the office.
