Real-time audits of flood relief funds for KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape are still "reactive" and transactions must first take place before the audit can provide "independent assurance", the Auditor-General (AG) has warned.
On Thursday night, AG Tsakani Maluleke briefed Parliament on how she planned on keeping flood relief spending in check.
In April, President Cyril Ramaphosa promised real-time audits to provide independent assurance on whether public funds had been appropriately accounted for and used for its intended purpose.
