Janusz Walus cannot do anything about the crime he committed - and denying his release on parole would infringe the Bill of Rights that people like Chris Hani fought to establish.
That was part of the judgment by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who on Monday made the landmark decision to allow Walus out on parole. He must be released within 10 days.
Walus, a Polish immigrant, assassinated Hani, a popular ANC and South African Communist Party (SACP) leader, in 1993.
