Gauteng police arrested a 36-year-old man on Tuesday night following the discovery of the body of a woman who was reportedly abducted in Lenasia South.

The body was found in a shallow grave at Phumlamqashi.

"It is reported that on Thursday 22 April 2021 at approximately 06h00, a 31-year-old woman was abducted from her home by two men. The suspects are alleged to have then driven off in the victim's vehicle that was later found abandoned in Ennerdale," spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said in a statement on Wednesday.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, and a team of detectives was established, activating a search party for the victim.

Investigations led the team to a shack in Phumlamqashi, Lenasia South, on Tuesday night, where one of the suspects was found.

The suspect then took the police to a shallow grave in the yard where the victim was buried.

"[The] police search and rescue team as well as forensic experts were summoned and exhumed the body that was later identified by the family as that of abducted Naadira Vanker. A postmortem will be conducted to determine how the woman was killed," Masondo added.

Police said they were searching for the second suspect.
