Gauteng cops investigating triple murder after bodies found in burnt out shack

Gauteng police are investigating a triple murder after a couple and another person were burnt to death in a shack in Lufhereng, Soweto, on Monday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, the police have opened three cases of murder and one of arson.

He said the house's landlord, on whose property the shack was built on, told the police he saw people running out of the burning shack.

Masondo added the landlord and others had tried to extinguish the burning shack. The blaze was later put out by firefighters.

"We are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in apprehending the suspects to please contact the nearest police station," he said.

According to IOL, one of the victims had been identified as Matshidiso Ndlovu, 18, and her boyfriend known as Njabulo, while the third person had not been identified.

The three were burnt beyond recognition, and Ndlovu was positively identified by her teeth.

Her family told the publication the landlord claimed five armed men had first opened fire, then burnt the shack down.
