While hundreds of qualified professionals sit idle at home, the government has spent more than R1 billion on employment contracts with Cuba over the last 10 years.

So far, staggering amounts of money have been spent on Cuban workers in basic education, public works, health, human settlements and defence.

According to DA chief whip Natasha Mazzone, the party submitted parliamentary questions to all government departments questioning past and present employment agreements with Cuba.
