The government needs to step up its game when it comes to child maintenance payments to avoid violating the minor child's constitutional rights and dignity, according to legal experts.

On Monday, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development announced child maintenance payments would be delayed due to department systems, including MojaPay, not being accessible.

The department utilises MojaPay to administer maintenance payments.
