Grade 5 pupil dies after being hit by truck

Johannesburg – A Grade 5 pupil from Leratong Primary School in Orlando East, Soweto, has died after being hit by a truck on her way to school on Wednesday.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said on Wednesday afternoon the department was saddened by the incident. 

Bodibe said the incident happened at around 07:30 on Wednesday morning. 

He said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle. 

"We express our deepest condolence to the family, educators and the learners. The department will provide the necessary support and counselling to the family, affected educators and the learners."
