A 15-year-old Grade 8 pupil is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old Grade 8 pupil to death at Pholosho Secondary School.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said the 15-year-old boy was arrested on Monday evening - hours after the incident - after he handed himself over to police at the Alexandra police station in the presence of his father.
"It is alleged that the suspect was fighting with other pupils during break time on Monday at approximately 12:00. He then went into the classroom and returned with a sharp object and stabbed one of the pupils."
"The stabbed pupil was later certified dead at the school premises. The motive for the killing and what triggered the fight is still under investigation," Masondo added.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi condemned the incident. He is expected to visit the school on Tuesday afternoon.
