Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha has formally responded to allegations which the Hawks are investigating after the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) opened a criminal case against him.

On Thursday, his spokesperson, Willy Mosoma, described the allegations as an "ongoing public campaign" and said they were based on "desperate lies".

Nehawu opened a case with the Hawks in Limpopo a week ago, alleging that the premier knew of fraudulent activities in his office, but failed to lay criminal charges as required by law.
