Cape Town Paralympian Achmat Hassiem is in an induced coma at a Melomed Hospital after experiencing complications following surgery on his back and shoulder.

Speaking to News24, Taariq Hassiem, Achmat's brother, said about two weeks ago his sibling had complained of extremely "sharp pains" on his upper body.
