The national Department of Health failed to implement recommendations aimed at helping clinical associates who are mid-level healthcare workers, despite a report being finalised more than four years ago.

These were the findings of the Public Protector, who investigated allegations of undue delay by the department to address the challenges experienced by clinical associates and to process the report of the Clinical Associate National Task Team, which was completed in 2017.

During a press briefing on Monday, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane said Sanele Ngcobo had lodged a complaint in his capacity as a clinical associate and secretary-general of the Professional Association of Clinical Associates in South Africa (PACASA) in 2019.
