An Ilyushin Il-76 heavy-lift aircraft has been flying non-stop for the past 10 days to transport equipment for the SA National Defence Force's (SANDF) main force deployment to northern Mozambique, however, getting the armoured vehicles there, is still a challenge.
The UAE-registered aircraft had been doing daily transfers between the SANDF's mobilisation centre at De Brug in Bloemfontein and Pemba, where the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) had its main base for its combined force battling the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
