The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has rescinded an eviction order granted to the City of Johannesburg in July to evict hundreds of people who have been illegally occupying blocks of flats in Fleurhof, Soweto, since 2017.
On Wednesday, judgment was handed down in the urgent application brought by the Socio-Economic Rights Institute (SERI) Law Clinic, who represented approximately 312 occupiers of 72 units after the City applied and were granted the order in the absence of the occupants.
