Days after advocate Dali Mpofu admitted Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane had been in illegal possession of a classified report on the so-called SARS Rogue Unit, she has told Parliament there was nothing in law that blocked her from having the document.
"In addition, I have a top-secret clearance certificate," Mkhwebane stated in a written response to questions put to her by MPs investigating her fitness to hold office in Parliament's Section 194 Committee inquiry.
MPs had put questions to Mkhwebane after Mpofu admitted, during his cross-examination of former SARS official Johan van Loggerenberg, she had been in unlawful possession of a classified 2014 Inspector-General of Intelligence (IGI) report when she compiled her report into the so-called rogue unit.
