The Khayelitsha taxi owner on trial for the murder of lawyer Pete Mihalik revealed yet another side to his skill set when he testified about fleecing customers who brought him gold and jewellery of questionable origins to sell on the "black market".
Vuyile Maliti told the Western Cape High Court on Thursday that, if possible, he would tell the clientele of his discreet service that he got less than he had hoped to and set the scene when he first met them with talk of "fluctuating" gold prices.
He would sell to a gold exchange at a higher price, pocketing the difference between the actual price and their payout, plus his 20% commission.
