Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane says calls by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s lawyer for her to be investigated for lying under oath are an attempt to "silence me or intimidate me".
Attorney Peter Harris contends that the Constitutional Court should refer its finding that Mkhwebane altered the Executive Ethics Code to justify her unlawful finding that the president had unethically misled Parliament over a R500 000 donation to his ANC election campaign to National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi for potential criminal investigation.
In court papers filed in the Constitutional Court, Mkhwebane now says the "proposal for the matter to be referred to the president’s self-appointed National Director of Public Prosecutions, in the hope that more taxpayers’ money will be wasted on my harassment, smirks of an effort to silence me or intimidate me from doing my work without fear or favour".
