Former West Rand mayor Boyce Maneli says he will not resign, as instructed by the Gauteng ANC, but will instead turn to the national executive committee (NEC) of the party to remedy the issue.

Maneli, now an MP, insists he was working towards holding those involved in the VBS scandal accountable, but was then redeployed by the ANC to Parliament last year. It ended his tenure as mayor of the West Rand district municipality.

Maneli and Merafong mayor Maphefo Mogale-Letsie were on Sunday told to step down from their respective positions by the Gauteng provincial executive committee (PEC).
