When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2021, most countries placed their citizens in mandatory lockdown to curb the spread of the disease. 

Now, a researcher from the University of Johannesburg says enforcing the lockdowns in African states might not have been the right thing to do. 

Instead, Professor of economics Nicholas Ngepah argued, countries with high levels of poverty and corruption should have first considered non-pharmaceutical measures before enforcing lockdowns.
