Former president Jacob Zuma’s advocate Dali Mpofu was adamant a letter from Zuma’s military doctor did not contain any confidential medical information, but now contends that its disclosure was a crime that should be punished with a 15-year jail term.
An August 2021 transcript read out by advocate Steven Budlender, who is representing this writer in a challenge to a private prosecution launched by Zuma against her and his prosecutor Billy Downer, revealed how Mpofu had hit back at criticism from National Prosecuting Authority advocate Wim Trengove SC about the letter written by Brigadier-General MZ Mdutywa.
Trengove said the letter had left the state “in the dark” about the former president’s medical condition, which was the basis of his application for a postponement of this arms deal-corruption trial.
