Johannesburg - The right hand lane on the M1 South past Braamfontein would be closed while a platform was constructed for a New Year's Eve fireworks display, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department said on Thursday.
Motorists were urged to use Joe Slovo Drive, as well as the M2 as alternative routes.
The lane would only be re-opened at 01:00 on Friday morning.
A northbound lane would also be blocked for about 15 minutes after midnight during the firework display.
The JPMD's Wayne Minnaar said motorists should use caution on these roads during the New Year celebrations.
