Amid uproar over the re-election of convicted child rapist Jeffrey Donson as Kannaland's mayor, News24 can reveal that his deputy, Werner Meshoa, was fired as a teacher for sexual misconduct with a pupil.

Donson and Meshoa, both of Icosa, were elected to their posts at the Kannaland municipality on Tuesday, with the backing of the ANC. Meshoa has also been convicted of fraud and defeating the ends of justice earlier this year.

Meshoa was employed by the Western Cape Education Department in 1996.
