  • Three people have been confirmed dead following storms in KwaZulu-Natal this past week.
  • The body of Ziyanda Mcilikazi was discovered on Friday after she was swept away by floods in Umlazi.
  • In separate incidents, Sinothile Biyela, 27, and Ntombi Zakwa, 60, were struck by lightning.

The body of a 22-year-old woman who was swept away in the recent storms in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday has been recovered, bringing the death toll in the province to three.

The body of Ziyanda Mcilikazi was discovered on Friday after she was swept away by floods in Umlazi.

"The recovery of the body means that the province has now lost three lives as a result of the inclement weather conditions that struck KwaZulu-Natal this week," the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) said in a statement on Friday.

In separate incidents, Sinothile Biyela, 27, and Ntombi Zakwa, 60, were struck by lightning.

Cogta MEC Sipho Hlomuka sent his condolences to the families who had lost loved ones.
