KwaZulu-Natal education officials say they will launch an inquiry to investigate the conduct of a high school principal who issued an "unconstitutional" letter to parents and "violated the right to free religious practice".
In a communique to parents in isiZulu, dated 3 February, Sipho Gumbi, the principal of Esizibeni Sivananda Vaswani Comprehensive High School on the eThekwini south coast, informed parents that all pupils should cut their hair short.
He described long hair as a "thorn and a hindrance".
