Two men have been arrested in Chatsworth while conducting a drug deal worth more than a million rand, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.
Kishorlall Hambapesad, 45, and Lucas Mashaba, 21, were arrested over the weekend in Glen Poppy Street, Crossmoor, with 22 200 capsules of heroin, 2 826 pieces of rock cocaine and 505 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R1.3m.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police units – including the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Provincial Drug Unit and the Umlazi K9 Unit – had made the haul after an intensive two-week investigation.
"After all the evidence was gathered police pounced on the suspects who were found in a building used to manufacture and package drugs."
Zwane said the duo were charged with dealing drugs and would be held in police custody until Wednesday, when they would apply for bail.
"Police in the province have vowed not to take their foot off initiatives aimed at eradicating the drug scourge in KwaZulu-Natal," he said.
