The lawyer representing former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule’s ex-PA and fellow corruption accused Moroadi Cholota says he is shocked at her arrest in the United States – which came two days after the State and defence agreed she would surrender to local authorities.
“I’m surprised by the arrest after the undertaking that we made. In fact, we had arranged that we would hand her in, between us and the [National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)], after 13 March. So, this comes as a shock, that two days after that email from the State, she gets arrested,” attorney Victor Nkhwashu told News24.
The NPA has declined to confirm whether it was involved in Cholota’s arrest, which came well over a year after the State began its efforts to extradite her from America, where she has been studying, to face trial in the State’s “asbestos scam” prosecution.
